What a Night

So here's the long version of my night yesterday...
I had to work a concert and all was going...well, besides standing on my feet for nearly four hours, it was going well. We were close to the end of the show and I was working the door. A lady walked by with a ton of perfume on. With my allergies in full affect I was snotting most of the night. I brought a purse full of kleenexes and left them under the risers for this very reason. So after said perfume lady I excused myself to go blow my nose. Mind you there is no light in the pavilion besides that from the stage. So I squeezed my little UFO flash light hanging from my lanyard. The floor slopes from the doors that enter the pavilion, to make it handicap accessible. So I snuck back there and in the midst of the dark, even with my flashlight shining, I mis-stepped. Next thing I know I was face down on the ground saying "oh sh&t." I rolled over and sat up. Searched for my lanyard as it had broken away from my neck during the fall. I squeezed my flashlight on and proceeded to take a look at my knees. My right one was red, but my left one was scuffed up pretty good and already starting to turn purple. Fabulous. I started sobbing. I think I was mainly in shock, then it dawned on me by all the debris on my chest that I had hit my stomach on the way down to the cement floor. Then I started to panic. I gathered myself, grabbed my purse and headed back out the door. Hobbling over to a co-worker I told him what I'd done. Then I propped myself up against the wall. He proceeded to call my boss, as she was backstage and luckily security was at the door and able to call an EMT to me. The wheeled me away from the pavilion doors as everyone would be barreling out very soon.
I sat there, went over some paperwork with the EMT as we decided what route to take next. I decided the shortest one was possible. My boss was asking questions and between the three of us we decided that I would, first, call my husband. Secondly the EMT would escort me to my vehicle and allow me to drive myself to the ER to be monitored. If anything further were to come out of this I would have to do follow up paper work with work. I was happy I got off without having to take an ambulance ride and drug tests. =)
So I was freaked out to call Adam and let him know what happened, considering it was nearly ten pm and our baby should be asleep. So I made the call, he of course wanted to know what happened. Then his next concern was what to do with the baby. I told him to call his mom, she's only five minutes away. So we waited for her to arrive and then met me in the ER.
I arrived at the ER, they checked me in and because I'm only 18 weeks they would check me out in the ER rather than having me monitored in labor and delivery. I waited for what seemed like forever for the doctor to see me. He checked out my wrists, knees, legs and ankles. When no broken bones were determined he called for someone from OB to come down and check the baby for heart tone and stress. We waited for probably twenty minutes or so. An ER nurse came in, admitting she has no real experience searching for the heartbeat. But she "likes" to do it. GREAT! So after probably ten plus minutes of excruciating pushing on my abdomen she gave up, because, well she didn't know what she was doing.
We then waited for another ten minutes or so when my original ER nurse came back and said she'd call OB again. The OB nurse finally showed up an within 60 seconds had a heart beat of around 150 bpm. YAY. That's the same as our normal OB appointments. So there was no sign of stress, I wasn't bleeding, so they're assuming the baby is fine. So then she reported that to the doctor and I had to wait for him to come back in. Another fifteen minutes pass and pops his head in (literally) and says "150 is normal so you're good to go. The nurse will be back to give you your discharge papers." Shortly after she came back, had me sign off that I was leaving and basically I can take Tylenol. I'm suppose to "take it easy" with an eight month old and drink plenty of water. ? water?
So we headed home, I stopped at BK for a late night meal considering it was after midnight and I hadn't eaten since 5:30pm. Needless to say I slept in today, thanks to my hubby. So after a long ordeal and a lot of waiting overnight, we are both fine. I'm sore, my knees and my hips are worse today, but that's to be expected. And now I have falling stories for both my kids. Let's just hope I don't do it again with this one!

New Tooth Sunday

Well this morning explains all the crabbiness in the house lately. I could have sworn Bella was getting her left, bottom, lateral incisor. Mommy was wrong. Instead we woke up this morning, very happy to find her right, bottom, lateral incisor AND her left, top, lateral incisor had busted through overnight. This is a definite first for her as she's never had two teeth come through at the same time before. As of her afternoon nap, the mysterious tooth that never seems to want to come through is nearly there. So she'll have her next tooth very soon. That's seven teeth!

She's still a happy girl!

He's An Angel in God's Arms

"You [disease] intended to harm me,but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
~ Genesis 50:20 ~

Please pray for the McKown family during their loss. They lost a son, grandson, nephew and cousin this morning.

Go rest peacefully into the arms of our Lord. You will be missed little man.

My big 8 month old

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Eight months, really? It seems like I say that every month, but it seems increasingly impossible with each passing month of her life. She is just becoming a big girl and before we know it she'll be up and running around with her cousins.

Where shall I begin? She's more talkative, playful and mobile than she was a month ago. She's now into the art of peek-a-boo, but she's the one who does the hiding from us. In particular she does these baby pull-ups using the side of her pack n play. When she pops up she smiles and waits for you to say Boo before she giggles. It makes game time a lot easier on Mommy and Daddy. And her home made remedy for squats is what keeps her legs getting stronger I suppose.

She's also well versed with Mama, Dadda, Baba, RahRah and NarNar. We still aren't sure what NarNar is all about. She's also very good at signing "milk" and she's still working on "potty". She recognizes the other signs she's been shown, but still not signing them all back to us.

She's still teething and number five (still nameless) is almost in. It's just being a stubborn little thing. It's giving us some trouble at night, but her recent illness was our biggest problem. We're still fighting her ear infections with antibiotics, and the runny nose doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon.

Speaking of size, our plump near-toddler is now into size 18-24 month clothes. She can fit some 12 month clothes, but as with anything clothing it's a crap shoot based on manufacturing. And because it has begun getting cool here, we're working on keeping socks on her feet. Um, yeah, socks equal chew toys. Her newest nickname is One-sock because she always pulls one of them off. Shoes are even more of a challenge. Not only are we having trouble finding ones that fit, but ones that she can't pull off.

I keep thinking she's going start walking any day now, but we still have a ways to go. She's starting to work on her balance and getting more brave each day. She let's go of everything and stands for a few seconds before falling to her butt. She really loves it when we hold her hands and let her walk around the house. I may have to shell out some money for some walking wings soon to save my back.

Not only is she working on her standing but apparently she has a new groove. Anytime she hears music she starts to jiggle up and down with her "dancing" moves. It's hilarious to watch. Not only does music on the satellite set her off, but it could be a goofy song on Noggin and you'll see her bouncing.

In food news, we've had a breakthrough today (we'll see if it holds true). She started stage three foods a while back but has been on strike with them. Adam taste tested them and he said he knows why she doesn't like them, because they're gross. So for lunch today I tried a trick suggested by my December Mamas. I added some spice, cinnamon to be specific, and wouldn't you know it. She ate a half jar of Turkey and Veggies. YES! Success for a change. I thought at first it was because of the chunks, but she does just fine with finger and table foods. If she continues to strike we'll probably return the food and just start giving her "big people" food.

I know I'm forgetting things, I really need to keep up with these updates more often!

Teefies and Sippy's

On my Mommy board we have threads for pictures. This week's thread is all about teeth. We began talking pictures of our babies teeth when they first started sprouting, but haven't really up updated them. So tonight Adam helped me capture a couple of cute pics while attempting to get some tooth shots.

Arrrrgggghhhh, Baby Monster!

We've also recently been speaking of Sippy's and Bella has had them since she was around six months old. But a few weeks ago we bought her one with a straw in it and she loves it. She can sip without tilting. Yay for big girls.

Before I forget again

This was a picture from March

This is an important milestone for us. One I was somewhat sad to see go, but I have accepted it and am proud of the accomplishments we made. We have officially weaned. We successfully breastfed for over seven months. The weaning truly started taking place when we began solid foods. But it kicked into high gear once I found out I was pregnant. Since that day, my supply slowly dwindled and she demanded more food. I am at peace with our decision. Sure I could have taken a supplement, safe for pregnancy, to maintain the supply, but I need the break. My child has always been a marathon nurser. It's very likely she was that way for a couple of reasons. My husband could never get enough food, according to him Mommy. Or it could be because of my breast reduction. I applaud my own efforts and the support of my wonderful husband. Without him we wouldn't have made it as far as we did. I also have to thank the wonderful ladies in the lactation department at the hospital. We got off to a rocky start, but without their advice we would have been lost. They are still amazed that we were able to exclusively breast feed considering the amount of tissues I had removed. I know we could have made it to her first birthday, and I am not going to fret over it. Mommy needs her body back, even though a new alien has invaded it. In a few months we will start the process all over again. I've given Arabella the best chance my body could give her. I sustained her life with nutrients from mine. That is quite a feat. It still amazes me that the human body does everything that it's supposed to, from growing the life to nurturing it. Am I disappointed? No. Am I thrilled we weaned? No. Am I happy I have a very healthy, chunky, well rounded (pun intended) child? Yes. And that's all that matters in the end. Sure it's costing more out of pocket to feed her, but I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. This includes the struggles, the tears, the biting, the yanking, the sore cracked nipples, remind me why I did this again? Just kidding, I loved it. From beginning to end and I will be ready to do it again.

Yes They Call Her the Streak

I am a mom who fails big time. I'm a big enough person to admit it. I have been staying up overnight to get my school work done which puts me in bed around 4:00am or so. Then Bella gets up around 8:00am. I am tired. I am nauseous. I am passing out.

So, I get the baby out of her bed this morning and change the softball filled diaper. I make a bottle and lay her in the bed with me and feed her. When she is done, instant elbow to the boob. Yes, what a lovely thing to have happen. But it's not the first time she's done it, it won't be the last. So I get out of bed and I put her in the pack n play. The pack n play is kept at the foot of the bed so that Mommy can rest and do work with her in the same room, all while keeping her contained.

Here comes the fail part of the story. I felt so ill and tired this morning that I turned on her cartoons, which she gets to watch some each day, and let the t.v. be her baby sitter. I laid there on the bed watching her dance around like she always does. Then I woke up to her screeching out Mama.

Yep, it's that time of the morning, time for a diaper change. So off we go to scour the poop from her bottom. She's happy now. Mind you she doesn't sleep in clothes, just her diaper, because she sweats like her Daddy. So clean bottomed, I put her back in the pack n play for more cartoons. I say this time, I'm just gonna lay here and watch her, not go back to sleep. FAIL.

I dozed off again and once again was woke up with screeching and singing from my baby girl. Once she saw my eyes were open she proceeded to say Mama. I ask her if it's time for another ba-ba. By this time it's 11 am. This is generally when the first nap takes place. So I crawl off the bed and head towards the kitchen. I'm rounding the end of the bed and I see her doing her goofy little dance. She knows I'm after her food. I did a double take. Why is that? Take a look for yourself...

My flower child LOVES to be naked. She's adjusted her diaper before but never was able to get it off. That all changed today. And of course Mommy was able to grab the camera before cleaning up her child and re-dressing her.

Of course it was a wet diaper. Perhaps she couldn't wait for me any longer? Either way I thought I got off scott free. I didn't see any wet spots in the pack n play. She didn't technically pee in the PNP, no, she sat on her blanky and did her business. I guess I should be grateful there was no poop involved!

Follow Up

Yesterday was my follow up appointment with the OB regarding my loss of weight and to see what if anything came out of the bogus sonogram I had done on my ovary the week prior. The appointment was uneventful and I basically heard everything I expected to hear.

As far as my weight goes I gained a pound or two so now he's happy. I flat out asked him what I started at and it was lower than what I had thought. That makes this whole thing even more funny because I didn't lose as much weight to begin with.

As for the sonogram, he found my story humorous. Then he said that the "cyst" found was the corpus lutem. This would be the cyst from which the baby came. Had the "specialist" said so I would have been as concerned as I was. Why you ask? Because I know what that term means, duh! So after all is said and done the OB still doesn't know what's causing my pain. As long as it doesn't get progressively worse, everything should be fine. The lack for cause of concern is that the baby is 100% healthy. That makes me happy and I will deal with the pain in the mean time.

On top of the baby being healthy, the nurse found the heartbeat on the first try yesterday. That is awesome because some of their nurses look for 5 plus minutes before giving up and the doctor winds up finding it instantly. I'm not sure if it has to do with lack of experience, nerves, or what but they sure could use some more lessons in finding the heartbeat. And we, me and Bella, got to hear the lovely little lub dub's beating at 150 bpm. How sweet it is!
